Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?

Due to the high demand for dermatology services, all referrals are triaged before an appointment can be made and no new patients can be accepted without a referral (excluding patients with acne concerns).

For patients previously seen by a Dermatologist at Bulimba Derrmatology, if there is a new issue or you have not been seen for a number of years, please ask your GP to forward a new referral to the preferred Dermatologist so that your new condition can be triaged.

For existing patients, it is not necessary to have a current referral, however having a current referral will enable you to receive maximum rebates from Medicare towards the costs of your consultation and many related procedures.

We encourage patients to ask their GP to forward a referral directly to the preferred Dermatologist using Medical Objects to expedite the triaging process. Referrals from GPs are generally valid for 12 months specific to the condition you have been referred for. Referrals from other specialists are generally valid for 3 months.
