Sun damage

Harmful ultraviolet rays in sunlight causes premature ageing, fine lines and wrinkles, redness and broken capillaries, as well as irregular pigmentation to our skin. Protecting our skin from the harmful effects of the sun is paramount to minimise the damage it can cause to our skin. Always wear quality sunscreens meeting Australian Standards and apply according to the directions on the label. Wearing protective clothing and avoiding exposure during the peak periods of UV exposure are important. As we get older, more time exposed to the sun however, inevitably leads to sun damage, particularly for fair skinned people.

At Bulimba Dermatology, our specialists are well qualified to assess your skin and offer quality solutions for your skin. In many instances, simple sunscreens and skin care products such as moisturisers may be all that is required. More extensive sun damage may require prescription creams, chemical peels or other procedures for better results.

Laser resurfacing is one of the preferred methods of treating sun damage at Bulimba Dermatology. The rejuvenating effects on skin tone and texture, refining fine wrinkles and smoothing out roughness and irregular pigmentation, have been revolutionised with the latest laser technologies. Treatments vary depending on the degree of sun damage as well as the patient’s time available for recovery (downtime). These treatments are usually an excellent way of treating sun damage not only on the face, but also on the neck and décolletage areas.
